History of Burleson, TX
The land Burleson sits on today was purchased in 1881 as a depot near the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. The town was named after Henry C. Burleson, a teacher and later president of Baylor University. In 1882, Burleson began to plant its roots as a community when a post office, several stores and churches were formed.
Burleson was a stable community of agriculture and livestock in its first fifty years, and was incorporated before 1930. In the 1930s the town became less agriculturally focused and started to grow more business and industry minded. It supported 62 businesses by the 1960s, and grew to a population of over 20,000 by 2000.
