Cleburne is a a city of over 30,000 residents located in Johnson County. The city is considered to be on the fringe of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Located just along US-67, Cleburne is about 32 miles South of Fort Worth and 63 miles North of Waco. Cleburne students are served by Cleburne Independent School District which has 1 High School, 2 Middle Schools and 7 Elementary schools. The School District is also home to a Private School, and Alternative School, and a Disciplinary School. Hill College’s Johnson County campus is conveniently located off US-67, making Cleburne a town with education from Kindergarten to Undergraduate School.

Cleburne State Park, voted one of the best State Parks in DFW, is a wide open park that is excellent for fishing, hiking, picnicking and camping. Along with outdoors adventures, CLeburne offers a number of museums and unique retail opportunities. The Plaza Theatre Company is one of the top-rated entertainment spots and offers live shows for all ages to enjoy.

History of Cleburne, TX

 

Cleburne began as a Civil War outpost under General Cleburne. Formerly known as Camp Henderson, the city was first incorporated in 1871. Cleburne was primarily an agricultural center and county seat for Johnson County until a major facility for the Santa Fe Railroad opened there in 1898. In 1900 Cleburne was the site of the founding convention of the Texas State Federation of Labor. Today, Cleburne is a suburban city that is growing steadily. The city is the second most populous in Johnson County just behind Burleson.
